Renowned American producer Perry Geyer, the founder and owner of Cybersound Studios whose clientele includes Jon Carin of Pink Floyd, the Jonas Brothers, Sarah MacLachlan, MTV, ESPN, Disney, BMW, Apple Computers, Universal Records and Warner Bros, invited Quan Yao Lim, graduate of International College of Music (ICOM) in Kuala Lumpur, to work together.

Quan Yao is one of Malaysian music industry’s most sought-after performers, producers and composers. On multiple occasions, he had major performances at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre, for which he composed, arranged and performed music with his band ‘No Such Thing’ and as part of the ICOM Celebration Concert Series. Quan Yao has worked with acclaimed Malaysian bassist and music director Khairul Aiman on his single “Everything.” He was also a starring performer, composer and arranger at several other prestigious events, including the Rainforest World Music Festival and the International Miss VSAM Beauty Pageant.

After moving to the United States to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Quan Yao continued to create great music. His single “Falling for You” received acclaim from leading international indie music publication, Jamsphere Magazine. While in the US, Quan Yao has also been composing music for fellow Malaysians: Soya Soo, an award-winning audio engineer who worked on the film “Despicable 3,” and Corliss Lee who has worked with Emmy-winning music agency Syn K.K. and Universal Music Malaysia.

“I am happy and humbled that through my work Malaysian music is getting additional international exposure,” says Quan Yao, “As composer, arranger and producer, I frequently fuse the sounds of our traditional music instruments, such as pinai and gendang, with contemporary Western harmony and rhythms.”

Quan Yao’s first recording projects at Cybersound Studios will be for Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, the fourth largest museum in the United States, and Runkeeper, a leading mobile running app with 45 million users worldwide.
